Annual Report 2025-2026

Across Canada, harmonization remained a priority. We worked with regulators to explore more aligned approaches to Continuing Education requirements and to support national efforts to modernize competency-based assessment for professional registration through a pan-Canadian task force. While this work is still underway, it reflects a shared commitment to continuous improvement and greater consistency across regulatory bodies. Lastly, we completed several key organizational initiatives. These included transitioning the Career Advertisements to the BC Society of Engineers and Geoscientists (BCSEG), improving registrant consultation and engagement, and finalizing our Regulatory Principles to guide our decisions and actions. Our work is supported by a strong and dedicated community. We are proud to have more than 1,800 volunteers and 161 staff contributing to our work, and to have, once again, been named one of BC’s Top Employers. We extend our sincere thanks to our volunteers, Board members, staff, registrants, and partners across BC and Canada for their continued engagement, insight, and commitment. As we look ahead, the progress made this year provides a strong foundation as we begin to consider our next Strategic Plan with a sense of optimism and intention, and with a continued focus on serving the public interest.

We also deepened our relationship with the BC government through ongoing outreach and engagement. We met with the premier, ministers, and MLAs at the Legislature to share information about our mandate, including attending a question period and presenting to the legislative committee alongside other professional governance regulators on concerns related to Bill M216. Social responsibility remained an important area of focus. We began developing our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy through research and internal consultation, and contributed to a CEO task force with engineering regulators across Canada focused on creating more inclusive workplaces. We also made progress on our Organizational Climate Change Strategy, including developing the foundation of a new, voluntary, sustainability-focused pilot program for firms (the Firm Practice Enhancement Program) launching in early 2027. This program will provide guidance and resources to help individual and firm registrants integrate climate and sustainability considerations into their work. Another important milestone this year was the Board’s approval of our Truth and Reconciliation Strategy. This strategy sets a clear direction for how we support registrants in understanding and applying reconciliation in their professional practice, while also building internal awareness and learning. Our first all-staff workshop on social responsibility helped connect this work across climate change, sustainability, reconciliation, EDI, and the role we play as a regulator.
