Speak Up, Speak Out – Personal Power and Respect at Work February 17, 2015 – Vancouver, BC To build relationships and avoid misunderstandings it is essential to communicate in an empowered, respectful way: one that allows us to take responsibility for our issues and to talk about our concerns without accusing, judging, blaming, interpreting and labeling. In this highly interactive session you will learn how power influences behaviour, to identify and respond to workplace disre- spect, the sources of your personal power, to shift from as- sumption to curiosity, from reactive to proactive, to speak up effectively and respectfully, to build healthy workplace relationships and become your own advocate. Coastal Hazards and Sea Level Rise Seminar February 19, 2015 – Vancouver, BC The seminar comprises two components. The first component, delivered by John Clague, is a summary and discussion of the physical processes that pose hazards to coastal development, including shore erosion and inunda- tion of low-lying coastlines during severe storms, sea-level rise, and tsunamis. The second component, delivered by Eric Morris, will focus on impacts to coastlines and coastal communities and infrastructure. Fundamentals of Bulk Materials Handling February 19 & 20, 2015 – Vancouver This two-day course is an overview of most aspects of the equipment and methods used in bulk materials handling from the pit to the port. The course is designed to give an introduction to the practical engineering aspects of bulk materials handling design, and an awareness of the many types of equipment and their application. The course pro- vides some practical design considerations for engineers and designers, and leads to better outcomes for the industry. Helical Piles Design, Installation and Testing February 19 & 20, 2015 – Burnaby, BC This course focuses on the basic fundamentals of helical piles and the different design theories for piles subjected to axial and lateral loads. In addition, it explores the most recent advances for helical piles subjected to seismic and machine loads. Types of helical piles, installation methods, and effects of geometrical configurations on their perfor- mance and capacity are discussed. A thorough treatment of the different field testing programs (i.e., static and cyclic axial and lateral loading) is provided together with a brief description on the instrumentation techniques. Most recent advances in the construction and performance of square-shaft small diameter piles as well as the circular- shaft large diameter piles are presented. Effective Risk Management Tools and Techniques February 20, 2015 – Vancouver, BC This course explains the risk management process for a typical project from risk planning and assumptions analysis

The benefits to permeable pavements include having rainwater drain directly into soil, decreasing urban heating, and reducing overall stormwater runoff. This concept is gaining acceptance through studies conducted in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. This course focuses on what constitutes perme- able pavement, design tools and methodologies in design- ing permeable pavement, the structural and hydrological capacities, and design traffic characterization.
