a second time in 2014, it’s difficult to believe Cain is an introvert. And yet she is. Shyness and introversion are not the same thing. Shyness is fear of negative judgment; introversion is preference for minimal external stimulants. Brilliantly written and impressively researched, Cain quietly argues that introversion is the source of thoughtful leadership and deeper understanding of matters. The modern North American business culture tends to favor extroverts as leaders because of their charisma and social confidence. This book both educates and empowers a new generation of introverted leaders who value contemplativeness and empathy.

Give and Take Adam Grant, 2013 Grant is the youngest tenured and highest- rated professor at the Wharton School of Business. He presents interesting perspectives that help motivate and sustain

workplace relationships. According to Grant, there are three types of people —takers, givers, and matchers (who practise quid pro quo ). Drawing on analytical data in human resources instead of intuition or experiences, Grant presents evidence that, while givers tend to be the least-productive engineers, the medical students with the poorest grades, and the salespeople with the lowest revenue, givers can become highly successful and effective performers. Grant argues that, to avoid being a doormat, the first step is to become “other-ish.” Unlike selflessness, other-ish-ness means giving time and skills conditionally to those who deserve them, without sacrificing one’s self. This book is particularly relevant for professionals struggling with time- management challenges. v
