Teck Highland Valley Copper – Mill Optimization Project Construction is well underway on the Mill Optimization Project at Teck’s Highland Valley Copper Operation. The Mill Optimiza- tion Project will apply current process technologies to existing operations, improving metal recoveries through upgrading and redesign of the flotation circuits, and increasing mill throughput by applying grinding system configuration improvements. The project includes a new rougher-scavenger flotation circuit, concentrate cleaning and regrind in a new, separate flotation building. The modern facilities will offer enhanced health and safety features, simplify maintenance and operating practices, and allow for future resource expansion opportunities. The project will allow Teck Highland Valley Copper to derive higher value from the cur- rent resource, and reduce business continuity risk. Engineering, procurement and construction management services are being executed by Fluor Canada’s Vancouver office. The project is on schedule for completion by the end of 2013.

BC Hydro Field Operations Facility

BC Hydro owns and operates this LEED certified facility in northern Maple Ridge, surrounded on three sides by steep embank- ments, and saddled with two main ravines containing Frodo Creek and Mud Creek. To achieve a sustainable stormwater man- agement design, a treatment train was developed to maximize water quality and control dis- charge to exceed Department of Fisheries and Oceans guidelines. The treatment train consists of grading to biofiltration swales which surround the property. The swales incorporate ditch

blocks with weirs that retain the first flush and discharge the excess to an underground detention tank. A multi-orifice flow-control structure was designed to allow specific discharge rates depending on the detention tank water level, the runoff then flows through a coalescing plate oil interceptor before discharging into Frodo Creek through an aboveground, high density polyethylene pipe.
