ENGINEERS CANADA RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING BC ENGINEERS AND AN ENGINEERING STUDENT On June 11, Engineers Canada announced its 2020 award recipients, and Engineers and Geoscientists BC is pleased to congratulate three award winners from BC: Colin Smith, P.Eng., FEC, Megan Pate P.Eng., and Dolma Tsundu.

COLIN SMITH, P.ENG., FEC MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD FOR PROFESSIONAL SERVICE

MEGAN PATE, P.ENG. YOUNG ENGINEER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

DOLMATSUNDU GOLD MEDAL STUDENT AWARD

Dolma Tsundu received the Gold Medal Student Award, which recognizes an undergraduate student for outstanding leadership, contributions to society, and volunteerism. Dolma is an integrated engineering student at UBC—a multidisciplinary program where she has focused on technology innovation that promotes social justice, equity, and quality of life.

Megan Pate received the Young Engineer Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of engineering by an engineer 36 years of age or younger. Megan is the City of Vancouver’s Design Manager for the new $400 million Northeast False Creek Viaducts Removal and Replacement Project. In her current role, she works to ensure that the streets will be accessible to all users and that underground infrastructure will be functional and resilient now and in the future. In 2019, Megan received Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Young Professional Award.

Colin Smith received the Meritorious Service Award for Professional Service, which celebrates outstanding contributions to a professional, consulting, or technical association or society in Canada. Colin currently has a management and engineering consultancy practice in Victoria. In addition to many years of sustained volunteer service with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, Colin serves on a wide range of boards, including Victoria’s Capital Regional District Core Area Wastewater Treatment Project, the Pacific Northwest Economic Region, Commissionaires Vancouver Island and Yukon, British Columbia Government House Foundation, and the Corporation of the Seven Wardens. In 2005, Colin received Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Professional Service Award.
