Cougar Creek, in Canmore, AB, created a large alluvial fan on the Bow River floodplain. A debris flood in 2013 eroded its banks and led to rapid sediment build-up and avulsions at the TransCanada Highway. The damage to nearby infrastructure, including private residences, was extensive.
