FIVE DIMENSIONS OF AN AUTHENTIC LEADER Authentic leaders have the privilege to be transformational leaders who can motivate other people to leave their mark. They don’t do this by emulating the style of other leaders. Instead, they have found a way to be more of themselves - but with more skill. ENVIRONMENTAL LAW AND LIABILITY This presentation will cover the environmental law policy framework, including federal and provincial jurisdiction over the environment, and will summarize the primary forms of environmental regulation. It will identify liability concerns for environmental consultants and will describe forthcoming changes to the law that practitioners should be aware of. CORPORATE REGULATION: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW This webinar will address some of the key questions and considerations regarding the corporate regulatory model developed to date, the anticipated impacts of the new Professional Governance Act, and how sole practitioners will participate in a corporate regulatory model.

Engineers and Geoscientists BC has also partnered with ProDio Learning, a third-party mobile audio provider, that produces high-quality audio-only professional development courses via a mobile app. The audio courses allow you the flexibility to learn anytime and anywhere, on your smartphone, tablet or desktop. This course reveals the essential issues involved in strategy and planning, most often people issues. Using real-world examples, case-studies and discussions with experts, this 2-part audio course will provide an engaging and thought provoking look at why planning is so important and why most managers and leaders fail to plan effectively. AVOIDING IDENTITY THEFT, FRAUD, AND CYBER CRIME This course will teach you how to protect your client by identifying the latest scams, threats and trends. You’ll learn the red flags along with real case stories and examples, so you and your clients can better spot current and future scams. This course will explore, in-depth, how to protect yourself from ID theft, how it starts, what the dark web is, how government and companies aren’t safeguarding your info, (and neither are we at times), how to quickly laser in on cyber scams, stay safe online and so much more. LEADING THROUGH INFLUENCE In this course, we talk to experts as we explore this concept of influence and why it is so important to long-term success in leadership. DOCUMENTED CHECKING AND INDEPENDENT REVIEWS Can I self-check my work? Should I document my checks? When should I check my work? This session will summarize the checking requirements for all engineering and geoscience professionals and clarify the difference between checking and the requirement to conduct a documented independent review of all structural designs in BC. FIELD REVIEWS & DIRECTION SUPERVISION, WHAT ARE YOUR PROFESSIONAL OBLIGATIONS? What is a field review? Are all engineering and geoscience professionals required to carry out field reviews? This session will explore the requirement for the professional of record to conduct field reviews, or to have them conducted under the direct supervision. Furthermore, we will also look at the direct supervision requirements for field reviews or any other professional work delegated to a subordinate. PROFESSIONAL GOVERNANCE ACT: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW The webinar will provide an update on the status of the Professional Governance Act, as well as review Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s response to the BC Government’s intentions paper, which includes positions on the following regulation topics: corporate regulation; declarations of competency and conflict of interest; and independent practice rights for engineering technologists. THE VALUE OF INDIGENOUS ENGAGEMENT ON ENGINEERING AND GEOSCIENCE PROJECTS This session will teach best practices for collaboration with Indigenous communities when working on engineering and geoscience projects on Indigenous land. The session will take a practical approach by assessing a hypothetical project from both the technical and First Nation’s perspective, and finish with a panel of experts sharing their experiences. WORKERS’ SAFETY: YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER OR GEOSCIENTIST What is WorkSafeBC’s mandate? How does the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation pertain to engineers and geoscientists? What does it says about your obligations, and those of your employer? And what are the consequences of non-compliance? Learn about your role in protecting worker safety in this instructive and practical webinar featuring videos, visuals, case studies and a Q&A.
