2017 Science Games

Engaging Tomorrow’s Engineers and Geoscientists Today Almost 160 kids on 32 teams from across the region converged at the Telus World of Science on March 4 to take part in APEGBC’s 2017 Science Games. Throughout the day, the kids demonstrated their problem solving skills in hands-on activities that had them exploring electrical-circuit design, aerospace concepts, soft landings and crumple zones. They also presented three-dimensional models they had created showing the results of their investigations into minerals found in the bathroom and North Shore geology and how it shapes development. Sponsors Fluor, Fortis BC, Knight Piésold Consulting and Stantec provided generous support. We thank them, the students, Telus World of Science, and the 30 APEGBC volunteers who, led by members of the Science Games Steering Committee, ran and judged the events—together, they made this celebration of science a resounding success. APEGBC invests in the future of BC’s engineering and geoscience professions through events such as the Science Games, which help get tomorrow’s geoscientists and engineers excited about science while they’re young.
