engineering in a Canadian workplace environment. Designed to address key skills, competencies, and customs commonly expected within the Canadian engineering workplace, it is a resource for all who intend to practice professional engineering in Canada and a tool for employers to support the development of their skilled workforce. FUNDAMENTALS OF POWER SYSTEMS FOR NON- ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS April 25, 2018 – Vancouver, BC The objective of this 2-day course is to provide an overview of the electric power system, associated sub-systems, and industry practices. A balance will be maintained between the fundamentals and the state of the art. The course will provide sufficient depth and breadth on various topics on electrical power engineering that will allow attendees to communicate in technical terms and achieve higher success in their respective fields of practice. NATURAL GAS PROCESSING PRINCIPLES April 26, 2018 – Vancouver, BC This course reviews the physical, chemical, and engineering principles used to understand the processing of natural gas and its by-products. It emphasizes the physical and chemical properties of natural gas; phase behaviour; vapour-liquid equilibrium data and computations; water-hydrocarbon systems; flow of gas and gas-liquid mixtures; mass transfer operations applied to separation of gaseous mixtures; heat transfer in gas processing; fluid mechanics principles in gas processing; chemical kinetic aspects; engineering principles used in production of natural gas and its associated liquids. PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES – DEVELOPING CLIMATE CHANGE-RESILIENT DESIGNS FOR HIGHWAY INFRASTRUCTURE IN BC May 3, 2018 – Kelowna, BC Engineers and Geoscientists BC has developed interim professional practice guidelines that provide practice guidance and case studies to support engineers in addressing climate change and extreme weather event factors in the designs for BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (BCMoTI) owned provincial highway infrastructure.

HYDRAULIC MODELLING OF SANITARY SEWER COLLECTION SYSTEMS April 17, 2018 – Richmond, BC The sanitary sewer modeling training begins with the basics of hydraulic theory as it applies to sewer collection modeling, and then takes participants through the sanitary sewer data model. Both steady- state and extended-period simulations will be presented in this course. Sewer load allocation and model calibration will be discussed. Participants will become familiar with EPA-SWMM (transport compartment only) and use the software to reinforce concepts with the workshop problems. INTRODUCTION TO TECHNICAL AND BUSINESS WRITING This seminar is for engineers and geoscientists who wish to improve their writing skills. Through a series of hands-on workshops, along with a focus on grammar and related writing principles, you will learn the key elements of technical and business communications for your workplace. We will look at grammar from a pragmatic perspective, to help you develop skills to write clearly and succinctly. OZONE FOR DRINKING WATER TREATMENT April 20, 2018 – Vancouver, BC Ozone has been used for drinking water treatment from the middle of the last century. Several of the key benefits of ozonation for drinking water, such as disinfection, taste and odour control, and disinfection by-product control are well recognized by the water industry. Use of ozone is increasing because very often, several benefits are achieved at the same time. This ability to achieve multiple benefits has increased ozone’s role in the current water treatment practice. Ozone has proved to have an important impact in improving water treatment processes. WORKING IN CANADA: KEY COMPETENCIES FOR ENGINEERS AND GEOSCIENTISTS April 24, 2018 – Webinar The Working in Canada seminar is a self-directed online course developed for internationally trained engineers to improve their understanding of and readiness to engage in the practice of professional April 18, 2018 – Vancouver, BC July 12, 2018 – Vancouver, BC

WRITING EFFECTIVE PROPOSALS AND REPORTS June 7, 2018 – Vancouver, BC July 16, 2018 – Vancouver, BC This seminar is for engineers and geoscientists who wish to develop the confidence and writing skills necessary to write effective proposals and reports. You will learn the key elements of writing and submitting winning proposals and reports, and how to tailor your content for both technical and non-technical audiences. You will learn to determine what your clients (internal and external) are looking for and how they will evaluate your proposal or review your report. This introductory course will give participants an understanding of Value Analysis and Value Engineering, and an appreciation that you do not need to be an engineer to participate in activities related to VA. It is about stepping away from the current solution or process and ensuring that good value is achieved. APPLIED SOIL MECHANICS AND SHORING DESIGN May 7 – 9, 2018 – Vancouver, BC Designed to meet the national competency standards for the installation of primary ground support, this course provides practical training on shoring design, reviews the related soil mechanics knowledge, and demonstrates how to apply soil mechanics theory to actual and practical shoring design, as well as the equations and loads that are derived for shoring design. FOUNDATION DESIGN SHORT COURSE May 14 – 16, 2018 – Vancouver, BC This short course should be of interest to geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and civil engineers who wish to have a better understanding of the current state-of-the-art with respect to the analysis and design of shallow and deep foundations. All key concepts and terminology will be explained and emphasis will be placed on the practical application of the information provided. VALUE ANALYSIS IN ACTION May 10, 2018 – Victoria, BC May 11, 2018 – Vancouver, BC
