THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: HOW TO HAVE A TOUGH CONVERSATION January 12, 2018; Vancouver, BC Everyone faces tough conversations in their lives. As professionals, we need to learn when and how to handle tough conversations so that we can meet personal, professional, and organizational goals. You will learn what makes conversations tough, what you can do about them, and how you can develop skills and processes for dealing with them constructively. GEOTECHNICAL EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING January 15-18, 2018; Vancouver, BC This course should be of interest to geotechnical, structural, geological, and mining engineers and consultants who wish to have a better understanding of the issues in the field of geotechnical earthquake engineering and current state-of-the-art seismic analysis and design of geo- structures. The course will cover an introduction to local site effects and seismic site response analysis, liquefaction assessment, seismic slope stability, seismic design of retaining structures, soil-structure interaction, and advanced topics in geotechnical earthquake engineering. INDUSTRIAL POWER SYSTEMS: DESIGN PRINCIPLES AND PROTECTION January 15-16, 2018; Vancouver, BC This course is designed to provide practical and industry standard knowledge necessary for the design and protection of industrial power systems. The course frameworks are based on ANSI/IEEE Standards 141 and 242 (Red & Buff Books). Participants will learn basics and principles of recommended practices in electric power distribution systems and how to apply this knowledge on industrial projects, operations and maintenance. RELIABILITY ENGINEERING, MAINTENANCE OPTIMIZATION, AND ASSET MANAGEMENT January 18-19, 2018; Vancouver, BC Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of basic concepts, methods,

and tools in the area of reliability engineering, maintenance optimization, and engineering asset management. They will learn the topics of reliability and maintenance concepts, component and system reliability analysis, preventive maintenance, condition based maintenance, asset management programs, and various techniques and tools. The participants will also learn these topics through multiple examples and case studies. HYDROLOGIC MODELLING WITH THE RAVEN FRAMEWORK January 22, 2018; Vancouver, BC This workshop is intended to provide an accelerated introduction to the Raven Hydrologic Modelling Framework. Learn how to use the Raven Hydrological Modelling Framework, a flexible and user-friendly software tool for developing both simple and complex watershed models. Raven is currently used across Canada by practitioners, consultants, researchers, and organizations for flood and reservoir forecasting, climate change impact assessment, regional water resource planning activities, and research applications RETAINING PROJECT DOCUMENTATION January 24, 2018; Webinar This webinar will outline the document retention requirements that each member of Engineers and Geoscientists BC must meet as defined in the Quality Management Guidelines – Retention of Project Documentation , and the related policies and procedures that employing organizations must have in place to meet the voluntary OQM certification requirements. HYDRAULIC MODELING OF WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS January 26, 2018;Vancouver, BC This water distribution modeling training session begins with the basics of hydraulic theory as it applies to water distribution modeling, then takes participants through more advanced topics such as working with multiple scenarios, model calibration, pump selection, energy cost studies, extended period simulation, fire flow analysis and water quality. Participants will become familiar

with EPANET and use the software to reinforce concepts with the workshop problems. EVALUATION AND REHABILITATION OF PAVEMENTS January 29-30, 2018; Vancouver, BC This course will provide an overview of the most popular design methods for roadway pavements as well as methods and procedures to evaluate pavement condition to determine how we can cost- effectively extend their service life. Case studies will be presented to show examples of pavement condition, why it is in the condition, and how best to cost-effectively treat defects to maximize the life of the asset. Pavement preservation and life- cycle cost procedures will be discussed to assist asset managers in conveying the importance of timely maintenance and rehabilitation actions. Effective April 7, 2017, the BC Energy Step Code has been introduced as an amendment to the 2012 BC Building Code (BCBC). The BC Energy Step Code, introduced as a new standard under the Code, establishes a set of voluntary incremental energy-performance targets for new buildings (via new Subsections 9.36.6. and 10.2.3. of Division B) that spans requirements in the BC Building Code to net-zero energy ready buildings. Effective April 7, 2017 the Letters of Assurance in the BC Building Code were amended by Ministerial Order M-158. These new Letters of Assurance including all relevant revisions to the BC Building Code apply to all projects involving a building permit application submitted the new Ministerial Order so that registered professionals can provide the relevant confirmation of compliance with the new provisions in the Energy Step Code. THE BC ENERGY STEP CODE February 1, 2018; Vancouver, BC and Webinar LETTERS OF ASSURANCE February 1, 2018; Vancouver, BC and Webinar
