The conference provides members the opportunity to connect with other professional engineers and geoscientists, government representatives, industry leaders, consultants and sponsors and exhibitors. Last year, more than 1,000 delegates attended. Introduction to Social Media for Engineers and Geoscientists October 26, 2015; Vancouver, BC, or viaWebinar Fear of social media? This course teaches what to keep in mind to safeguard your or your company’s reputation if you intend to be active on social media. You will learn the core principles of social media for business versus personal use, the state of social media, opportunities and benefits, and how engineers and geoscientists are using social media. Maintenance Management: A Rational Approach October 28, 2015; Vancouver, BC This seminar provides a fresh, logical new look at all aspects of maintenance, from business processes to the completion and recording of maintenance work. Many old ways are challenged, and the ways to use modern tools to keep maintenance activities organized The recent Report on Mount Polley Tailings Storage Facility Breach by the Independent Expert Engineering Investigation and Review Panel highlights the need for improved professional practice for tailings-dam site characterization in BC. The primary goals of the seminar are to provide an overview of the key geological issues to do with the spatial distribution and continuity for lacustrine soils in glaciated BC valleys and to summarize the best available technologies for geotechnical characterization. Project Management: A Team Approach November 4 & 5, 2015; Vancouver, BC Successful projects result from good time and cost control, effective team leadership, and highly motivated teams. These are achieved by using a team approach and focused on real results are presented. Site Characterization for Mine Waste Embankments in British Columbia Glaciated Valleys October 29, 2015; Vancouver, BC

Call for Presenters Are you an expert in your field who would like to contribute to the future of engineering and geoscience? APEGBC seeks members to present on a variety of topics. For information, please visit apeg.bc.ca/Events/Seminar. APEGBC Online Learning Centre The Online Learning Centre features audio recordings of previously held APEGBC seminars, synchronized with PowerPoint. New sessions will be added throughout the year. Visit apeg.bc.ca/Professional-Development/Offerings/ Online-and-Distance-Education for a complete listing of sessions available. The workshop begins with the basics of hydraulic theory as it applies to sewer collection modeling, then takes participants through the sanitary sewer data model. Both steady-state and extended-period simulations will be presented. Sewer load allocation and model calibration will be discussed. Participants will become familiar with EPA-SWMM (transport compartment only) and use the software to reinforce concepts with the workshop problems. Take your leadership to the next level by leading with the ‘Brain in Mind.’In this workshop, you will learn how to: understand the five elements of a brain-friendly model to collaborate and influence others successfully, modify your own and other people’s behaviour to minimize negative and maximize positive emotions towards an event, and integrate goal setting with brain science to influence workplace productivity. Fundamentals of Project Management November 30–December 2, 2015; Vancouver, BC This workshop equips engineers new to their first jobs, and those with a few years’experience who want to transition from a technical position to a project leadership role, with the tools, skills, behavioral attributes, and competencies needed to manage complex design and construction projects. Using lectures, discussions and case studies, the focus is on practical applications and techniques for immediate implementation and project results. A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. Participants learn what to do, how to do it, and why they need to do it. Hydraulic Modeling of Sanitary Sewer Collection Systems December 4, 2015; Vancouver. BC

in planning, scheduling, monitoring, and evaluating projects. This two-day seminar combines technical project-management tools with the team processes needed to ensure the tools work. What is Networking and Why is it Important? November 5, 2015; Vancouver, BC This seminar will provide participants with the tools to begin creating a network and to use their existing network. Participants will understand the importance of networking in the Canadian marketplace and learn how to effectively network for the job they seek. Hydraulic Modeling of Water Distribution Systems November 6, 2015; Vancouver, BC The training begins with the basics of hydraulic theory as it applies to water distribution modeling, then takes participants through more advanced topics such as working with multiple scenarios, model calibration, pump selection, energy cost studies, extended period simulation, fire flow analysis, and water quality. Participants will become familiar with EPANET and use the software to reinforce concepts with workshop problems. My Zero Inbox November 13, 2015; Webinar Join Laurie Daschuck, founder of the company, Stop the Presses, and communication consultant, for a fun and interactive presentation focused on achieving email mastery, confidence, and work–life balance. This workshop will help you see improved results in workplace and team communication. Forensic Engineering and Failure Analysis

November 19 & 20, 2015; Vancouver, BC The course provides participants with an understanding of scientific and engineering

investigation methods and tools to assess potential sources, causes, and solutions for prevention of failure due to natural accidents, fire, high- and low-speed impacts, design defects, improper selection of materials, manufacturing defects, improper service conditions, inadequate maintenance, and human error.

Leading with the Brain in Mind November 23, 2015; Vancouver, BC

Referencing the latest research on neuroscience, leaders can improve their capacity to understand and improve the quality of their everyday interactions with others.
