SHUNT REACTOR SWITCHING: THEORY AND PRACTICE October 25, 2017; Vancouver, BC Circuit breakers generally have no difficulty in interrupting shunt reactor currents and in fact may force the current to a premature zero due to the phenomenon of current chopping. Shunt reactor switching is however a unique and onerous duty for circuit breakers involving a complex interaction between the characteristics of the circuit breaker by type, gas or vacuum, and by way of its current chopping capability, arc voltage and arcing time, and the circuit as represented by its effective capacitance and reactor grounding arrangement. This course explains the interaction in detail and the derivation of a generalized circuit breaker TRV equation that can be used for any shunt reactor application. This course is designed for project executives, directors, managers and project managers who are involved directly or indirectly in managing projects. The purpose of the course is to build on the Fundamentals of Project Management background by analyzing current industry practices and introducing some value-improving practices to enhance the delivery of complex construction projects. ADVANCED PROJECT MANAGEMENT October 26, 2017; Vancouver, BC Tired of living in your inbox? Learn key setting changes in Outlook and a handful of keyboard shortcuts; how to manage small projects of five to 20 tasks directly from Outlook; and how Microsoft OneNote integrates with Outlook to manage meeting agendas and minutes. In addition, learn how OneNote can help manage the documents, emails, and notes that need to be shared with a project team. MICROSOFT EXCEL CORE TRAINING FOR ENGINEERS AND GEOSCIENTISTS November 1, 2017; Vancouver, BC Learn to use Excel to create budgets, track costs, and generate quotes. Learn tools and ideas that OUTLOOK STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT October 31, 2017; Vancouver, BC

will save time and create professional-looking proposals and plans. Participants with only a very basic knowledge of Excel will quickly progress to creating basic databases, budgets, graphs, reports, and the fundamentals of building equations. This course maps to the Microsoft MOS Core Exam. After reviewing all topics in the manual, participants will be prepared to successfully write the Microsoft Office Specialist Core Exam. INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS WRITING November 2, 2017; Vancouver, BC This seminar is for engineers and geoscientists who wish to improve their writing skills. Through a series of hands-on workshops, along with a focus on grammar and related writing principles, attendees will learn the key elements of business and technical communications for your workplace. The group will look at grammar from a pragmatic perspective to help you develop skills to write clearly and succinctly. MODELING OF BRIDGES FOR LINEAR AND NON-LINEAR SEISMIC ANALYSES November 2-3, 2017; Vancouver, BC Learn the necessary tools to estimate forces that can be applied to bridges and understand how they respond to earthquake ground motion. The concepts of modelling of bridges for linear and non-linear seismic analyses and the important factors that control their seismic response such as effective weight, stiffness, damping, etc., will be addressed. Modelling for seismic analysis of bridge structures is illustrated through examples of bridges with different geometry and configuration. MICROSOFT EXCEL EXPERT TRAINING FOR ENGINEERS AND GEOSCIENTISTS November 8, 2017; Vancouver, BC Learn to manage data through databases and pivot tables that will simplify complex reporting and tracking requirements for projects. Also learn advanced functions and tools like Goal Seek and creating scenarios useful for providing variations on quotes. This course maps to the Microsoft MOS Expert Exam.

Quite often we have limited exposure to one of the areas of SCADA but need to have a better understanding of other components of SCADA systems. This tutorial starts at a very high level and dives into key issues and features of various SCADA systems. This workshop is designed to provide you with a set of tools and resources to incorporate effective communication skills into your workplace. Participants will have an opportunity to practise their new skills and receive specific feedback to enhance their speaking, listening, non-verbal, and email communications within the workplace. STORMWATER RATE FINANCING FOR CANADIAN MUNICIPALITIES October 12, 2017; Richmond, BC This seminar is intended for municipal employees, regulatory agency staff, and consultants who are interested in developing a new rate or modifying their existing rate to support their local government’s stormwater management programs. Stormwater rate financing details will be given, along with case studies and lessons learned from stormwater financing studies that have recently been undertaken across Canada. FIELD REVIEW RESPONSIBILITIES OF DESIGN CONSULTANTS October 24, 2017; Vancouver, BC and Webinar Not all clients understand the limited scope of field review by a design consultant. In addition, not all professional engineers appreciate the potentially wide scope of responsibility under a letter of assurance relating to field review. What are the duties encompassed in a field review retainer and under a letter of assurance, and when will they be expanded beyond your expectations?
