Innovation writer wins national award
Lee, who is a mechanical engineering student at UBC, received the medal in the Best Profile of a Company category. The 8th annual magazine awards were announced in June. The awards jury explained Lee’s article was, “A thorough balancing technical detail with clear, accessible storytelling. Most impressive is the way it foregrounds the human impact of innovation, helping readers understand not just how the technology works but why it matters in people’s lives.” and nuanced exploration of a complicated subject,
Vancouver writer and engineering student Shereen Lee earned a gold medal in the National Magazine Awards: B2B for her Innovation article “Stand Up Robotics.” The article, published in the Fall 2025 issue of Innovation , focused on Vancouver start-up Human in Motion, which is developing robotic exoskeletons to assist individuals with paraplegia or lower body mobility issues in moving upright. “Shereen is a unicorn,” said Innovation Managing Editor Shelley Nicholl. “Not only is she skilled at handling technical detail with her engineering background, she’s also a brilliant writer.”
