R evisions – Q uality M anagement G uides Engineers and Geoscientists BC publishes Quality Management Guides to provide guidance on the requirements under the quality management related provisions in the Professional Governance Act (PGA) and Engineers and Geoscientists BC's Bylaws. All eight Quality Management Guides were revised in June 2023 to address recent changes to regulatory requirements under the PGA . Updates included application of Permit to Practice numbers, as well as other clarifications, such as activities that should not be delegated, guidance on multi-disciplinary independent reviews, means and methods for field reviews, and guidance on authentication and standardized manufactured components. Quality Management Guides elaborate on the expected application of the quality management obligations captured in Bylaw Section 7.3; they are valuable resources for registrants when carrying out their professional practice. Quality management requirements include direct supervision, documented

checks, independent reviews of high-risk professional activities or work, independent reviews of structural designs, field reviews, retention of documentation, authentication of documents (formerly called use of seal) and use of Professional Practice Guidelines. Registrants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the content of each of these guides and how the requirements might apply to their work. Engineers and Geoscientists BC has developed webinars on each quality management requirement, which can be accessed through the Knowledge Centre ( egbc.ca/knowledge-centre ).
