Ramin Seifi, P.Eng., FEC, is Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s new Director, Professional Practice, Standards, and Development, having started June 26. In this role, Ramin oversees the organization’s professional standards, regulations, and requirements, including firm regulation, regulatory requirements for registrants, and guideline and standards development. When asked about his interest in joining Engineers and Geoscientists BC and what he hopes to do here, Ramin said “I have always considered work to be more than an occupation or a means of providing a livelihood—rather, as a way of contributing to society. He has spent the last 23 years at the Township of Langley in progressively senior roles, most recently as the General Manager, Engineering and Community Development, with oversight of more than 300 staff across 10 different departments. Prior to his time with the Township of Langley, Ramin was a Project Manager for McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd. in the Lower Mainland and Prince George. Ramin is a strategic thinker and relationship builder with experience in improving operational efficiencies and effective service delivery. During his time with the Township of Langley, he represented municipal interests across multiple levels of government and with diverse industry stakeholders and of the ITS department. He led various teams to deliver and support applications and infrastructure solutions. Prior to BCIT, Derrick worked with Athabasca University, and was vice president of OSI, an international technology and business consulting firm. Derrick holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and finance from the University of Saskatchewan and is a seasoned technology leader and entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience that includes business strategy and leading digital transformations. Engineers and Geoscientists BC welcomed Derrick Underwood as Director, Information Systems (IS), on July 17. In his new role, Derrick oversees IS and provides strategy and operational guidance to manage, grow, and transform the services for registrants and staff. This includes the Knowledge Centre and registrant database, information security and cybersecurity, and user support functions. Derrick joins the organization from the BC Institute of Technology (BCIT), where he was most recently Director, Enterprise Technology.
