Website Brings Science and Engineering to Life There’s an EnGenious new way to encourage youth to pursue a career in engineering. EnGenious.ca is an online game for kids and a national engineering outreach resource for teachers and parents of junior highschool students. The EnGenious virtual world includes 10 interactive games

in partnership with Engineers Canada. Funding was provided by APEGA, Engineers Canada, the Government of Alberta and APEGA permit holders. The career portion of the website has a variety of free educational resources for teachers and parents including;

• Print materials and in-class activity sheets; • Descriptions and examples of ca- reers in engineering and geoscience; • Ideas on how to use the online games to reinforce unit lessons; • Links to other science-related web- sites and resources; • Information on engineering and geoscience outreach programs across Canada;

showcasing six engineering disciplines. Players can run a refinery, set up an environmentally friendly electricity grid, inspect pipelines deep under the ocean and more.

To show youth that engineering can make life better, players earn special rewards based on their ability to improve the social, economic and environmental well-being of the EnGenious citizens. They’ll also answer trivia questions, unravel puzzles and develop their problem- solving skills. Development of EnGenious was led by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA),
