REGI STRANT SURVEY RESULTS
To improve the trust scores, the survey report indicated the top driver is to demonstrate that Engineers and Geoscientists BC is a leader as a strong and progressive regulator. Other drivers include showing the organization instills trust in the professions and is a resource to help registrants in their practice. ATTITUDES ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION The majority of registrants (80 percent) strongly or somewhat agree that Engineers and Geoscientists BC will hold registrants to the high standards of the professions (see chart to the right). As well, 78 percent strongly or somewhat believe the organization does a good job in protecting the environment. A significant number (62 percent) also strongly or somewhat agree that the organization is a resource to help registrants practice to the best of their ability, while 56 percent strongly or somewhat agree that Engineers and Geoscientists BC is a partner in industry. Fifty-eight percent consider the organization as "just a way to keep my professional designation current." REGISTRANT REACTIONS IN DIFFERENT CATEGORIES Geoscientists, who make up about six percent of the registrant base, consistently poll as being less positive about Engineers and Geoscientists BC. For example, geoscientists were about 10 percent below engineers in their level of trust for the organization. Thirty-two percent of geoscientists said they had little or no trust in the organization. Sole practitioners also cite concerns over their unique issues. With the Regulation of Firms, sole practitioners felt the burden of extra reporting requirements. There is relatively less agreement (broadly 60% agree) that the organization: • Is a resource that helps registrants practice to the best of their ability • Is a partner for registrants in industry • That the organization is just a way for registrants to keep their professional designation current.

an added layer of bureaucracy. Only 51 percent of sole practitioners said they felt regulating firms was a high priority. NEXT STEPS Engineers and Geoscientists BC will be evaluating the survey findings and looking at possible recommendations.
"The survey data provides a valuable snapshot of registrants' views about Engineers and Geoscientists BC and our refined mandate under the PGA ," said Yang. "We are carefully reviewing the results and recognize we need to find ways to improve understanding and clarity of our role."
