transportation and bridge asset management. “It’s like our in-house conference,” explains Mah. Mah says the capacity building seminars are a key aspect of the company’s CE. This year, Associated is planning a two-and-a-half-day conference for their water practice. “We bring together staff from across the company to participate in person,” she says. Delve Underground Consulting Canada 16 professional registrants CE at Delve Underground, a tunnel design and heavy civil engineering firm, emphasizes on-the-job experience to reflect the company’s specific needs. Stephanie Robillard, MSc, P.Eng., office manager at Delve’s Vancouver location, is closely involved in developing their professional practice management plan. That includes educating Canadian staff and those working on Canadian projects about Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s requirements and ensuring they’re implemented. “Our company culture has always been very much about on-the-job training,” says Robillard. “We’re very niche in terms of engineering and geoscience. We’re focused on underground design and construction pretty exclusively. Either people are coming in from other industries partway through their careers or they’re fresh out of school so there’s a lot of continuing education that has to happen; it’s always been quite integrated into what we do.” Integrating annual performance reviews with a continuing education
