BC municipalities are taking advantage of the circular benefits of using organic waste to produce biofuel. By using organic waste from farming and industry to create the biofuel, less waste heads to the landfills. Biofuels can then be produced to make renewable natural gas, which can be used as a carbon-reduced energy source. The waste that can’t be used for gas is then made into compost, heading back to the farms. It’s called “closing the loop.” P hoto : ekrem sahin /S hutterstock
