Innovation Spring 2025
In December 2024, the federal government committed to a target of net-zero emissions by 2050 through its Clean Electricity Strategy. With this target comes a $60-billion commitment to develop infrastructure by 2035, encompassing a range of proposed initiatives from wind and solar energy generation projects to tax credits for clean energy investments. However, the specific allocation of resources remains an open question – one that will occupy policy makers, analysts, advocates and engineers across the country for many years. Dr. Madeleine McPherson, P.Eng., a civil engineering professor and researcher at the University of Victoria, aims to help answer that question with energy modelling.
