PACIFIC CENTRE AND WATERFRONT LONG-TERM ENERGY TRANSITION Decarbonization requires a holistic approach. As such, FirstLight crafted a Long Term Energy Plan (LTEP) for Cadillac Fairview’s Waterfront and Pacific Centre properties in Vancouver, outlining an innovative and financially appealing pathway to dramatically reduce their carbon emissions. At the core of the LTEP is a time independent energy recovery (TIER) system, enabling heat sharing between buildings. This system incorporates heat-recovery chillers, thermal energy storage hubs utilizing phase-change material, and air-source heat pumps to charge the storage during off-peak hours. The plan’s initial phase, with a project cost of $9.5 million, is currently being constructed. By 2040, Pacific Centre and Waterfront portfolios will achieve net zero site emissions to align with the City of Vancouver’s Carbon Pollution Limits for Existing Large Commercial Buildings. Furthermore, the total energy use intensity of the Pacific Centre and Waterfront portfolios will be reduced by 21% and 15% respectively. Company Name: FirstLight Energy Solutions Ltd. Participants: Moises De Alba, Meng, P.Eng., LEED AP BD+C; Dawn-Marie Barreira P.Eng.; Mike Reimer, P.Eng.; Chris Goodchild, P.Eng.; Sarah Mayer EIT; Mahmoud Abdalhamid, EIT.
