DISCIPLINE AND ENFORCEMENT DISCIPLINE NOTICE: SHARAT CHANDE
of the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Code of Ethics which requires that registrants hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public. As Mr. Chande is no longer a practising registrant of Engineers and Geoscientists BC, he is prohibited from using the reserved title of P.Eng. and engaging in the reserved practice of professional engineering. In the future, if Mr. Chande reapplies for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, he must comply with all requirements of the Credentials Committee of Engineers and Geoscientists BC and all Bylaws, policies, and guidelines respecting registration and competency. If Mr. Chande successfully reinstates his registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, he will be suspended for a period of three months and will be restricted from performing any geotechnical engineering except under the direct supervision of a qualified professional registrant. Mr. Chande paid $3,750 toward the legal and investigative costs of Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
In a February 27, 2025, Consent Order, Sharat Chande admitted that he demonstrated unprofessional conduct in relation to the engineering services he provided for a single-family residence. In accordance with the Consent Order, Mr. Chande resigned his registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC effective March 1, 2025. In 2018, Mr. Chande took over mid-project as the structural and geotechnical engineer of record for a single-family residence in Hemlock Valley, BC. In the Consent Order, Mr. Chande admitted that he demonstrated unprofessional conduct by failing to conduct an adequate geotechnical assessment involving test pits, drilling, or other relevant methods that would provide the soil design parameters. Mr. Chande also admitted that he took professional responsibility for the geotechnical components of the project in circumstances where he did not have adequate knowledge of the subsurface conditions to issue a Schedule B Letter of Assurance for the project. Mr. Chande agreed that he acted contrary to Principle 1
