HYDROGEN FUEL CELL MOBILE GENSET
TYCROP designed and built a 100-kW mobile hydrogen fuel-cell generator with integrated energy storage, developed in Rosedale, BC. The system provides a zero-emissions alternative to diesel generators for temporary and remote power applications. The project was driven by the need to decarbonize power generation used in film production and other temporary industrial operations. Engineers developed integrated electrical power systems, hydrogen storage and delivery systems, safety systems, and supervisory control software to ensure reliable field operation. Safety and regulatory approval were key engineering priorities. The system underwent comprehensive hazard and operability (HAZOP) analysis, third-party electrical safety certification, and hydrogen gas approval by Technical Safety BC. The design incorporates layered protections including ventilation, pressurization, hydrogen gas detection, and strategic equipment layout. The APS GT100 is the first mobile hydrogen fuel cell generator approved for use in BC and has successfully powered film production sites.
