Polar Engineering supported the Capital Regional District alongside Cascadia West Contracting to implement a site-wide heat recovery system at the Panorama Recreation Centre in North Saanich, planned for completion mid-2026. The heat pump was designed by Polar Engineering and custom built by Fraser Valley Refrigeration to industrial standards. It recovers waste heat from the ice plant to offset major heating loads for the pool, ventilation, dehumidification, and domestic hot water (DHW) systems, while also serving chilled water in the summer to mitigate overheating of the arenas and natatorium. Upon completion, the system is estimated to save over 300 tCO 2 e/yr, reducing site
