WOODFIBRE LNG MARINE PILING FRAME

Successfully deployed in September 2025, Ratio Structural Engineering pioneered a globally unique marine piling methodology for the Woodfibre LNG project in Squamish. To navigate treacherous, unstable underwater slopes, the firm engineered a bespoke rotating piling frame mounted on a single monopile – a revolutionary departure from traditional, invasive falsework. This sophisticated design, integrating structural engineering, geotechnics, and naval architecture, represents a North American first in heavy civil temporary works. The project serves as a benchmark for Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s mandate of public safety and environmental stewardship. By eliminating traditional pin-piling, the structure mitigated the risk of catastrophic underwater landslides within a sensitive ecosystem. Furthermore, preassembling the frame for a single-lift installation drastically reduced hazardous overwater man-hours. This innovation redefines marine construction, proving that complex industrial requirements can be met through engineering that prioritizes worker safety and ecological integrity. OKANAGAN ECO PARK SOLAR ARRAY

The Okanagan Eco Park solar power array in Coldstream, BC, is a 1.7MW grid-tied renewable energy system engineered and installed by Kuby Renewable Energy for Restoration Lands Inc. The project delivers high-performance, long-term generation, and a fast ROI. The system integrates 2,400-plus, high-efficiency PV modules, 6 inverters, a robust racking system designed for regional wind and snow loads, and a control system to limit exports to the medium voltage utility grid as per BC Hydro’s Load Displacement Program. Electrical and structural designs were coordinated to maximize energy yield, ensure code compliance, enable seamless interconnection with existing infrastructure, and allow for expansion in the future. The installation demonstrates best-in-class execution across system design, construction, and commissioning, showcasing how engineering practices can deliver reliable low-carbon power with measurable operational and environmental benefits.
