Innovation Summer 2026
HARRY JEROME COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTRE
Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre is a 188,000-sq.ft. multi-use civic facility integrating aquatic, arena, fitness, childcare, and outdoor recreation amenities serving the North Vancouver community. The new facility replaces a building that accounted for 29% of the City’s corporate greenhouse gas emissions. Achieving 53% energy savings over the NECB 2015 baseline, Harry Jerome has achieved Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) Zero Carbon Building Certification, a significant milestone for a typically energy-intensive building type. This achievement is made possible by innovative mechanical systems, including CO 2 refrigeration with maximized heat recovery, an InBlue gravity fed drum filtration system (among the first in Canada) supporting exceptional indoor air quality and reduced pump energy, heat recovery from dehumidification processes, and district energy connection. This project demonstrates environmental stewardship and public safety by prioritizing efficiency, sustainability, and a healthy community environment.
