RECOGNIZING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN IN ENGINEERING DAY
J une 23, 2018 marked International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), a global awareness campaign to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus attention on the amazing career opportunities available to young women in this exciting industry. Together with members and stakeholders, Engineers and Geoscientists BC recognized and celebrated the achievements of female engineers, and their contributions to the profession, our communities, and society. CELEBRATION HIGHLIGHTS: • Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s President, Vice President, CEO, and council members provided video messages on how they are making an impact in their communities through engineering. • An opinion editorial was published in the Vancouver Sun on June 23, authored by President, Caroline Andrewes, P.Eng., CMA, CPA and CEO and Registrar, Ann English, P.Eng. • Engineers and Geoscientists BC placed an advertisement in the Vancouver Sun for International Women in Engineering Day. Watch our events page ( egbc.ca/events ) for a diversity webinar series later this fall. And, learn more about the important work we are doing to support the Engineers Canada 30 by 30 initiative ( egbc.ca/About/Initiatives-and-Consultations/30-by-30-Initiative ). 30 by 30 is an initiative introduced by Engineers Canada to raise the percentage of newly licensed engineers who are women to 30 percent by the year 2030. Engineers and Geoscientists BC fully supports this goal and has been actively working since 2013 on a number of initiatives to support diversity in the professions. The development of a new action plan in further support of this goal is currently underway. organizations shared their passion for the profession and recognized the importance of 30 by 30 by posting photos and videos on social media by using the hashtags #RaisingTheBar and #INWED2018.
