2019 CERT I F I ED PROFESS IONAL COURSE NOW OPEN FOR REGI STRAT ION Engineers and Geoscientists BC and the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) are again offering the Certified Professional (CP) Course in 2019, now open for registration. The course will be based on the 2018 BC Building Code, expected to be issued later in 2018. Engineers and Geoscientists BC and AIBC have been concludes with two full-day exams on April 24 and May 1, 2019. There are 25 seats available for the live seminars at the AIBC offices located at Suite 100-440 Cambie Street in Vancouver. An additional 10 positions are available for attendance by webcast.

The CP Program is an alternative to the conventional building permit and inspection process used by the City of Vancouver and the City of Surrey, and other municipalities. Through the program, participating municipalities can issue a building permit on the assurances of a CP, who also must be a recognized registered professional (i.e., professional engineer or architect). The CP Course focuses on Part 3 and the relevant associated provisions of the BC Building Code and the Vancouver Building Bylaw , and on CP practice. The CP Course schedule consists of 12 full-day sessions on Wednesdays, from January 9 to April 10, 2019. There are no classes on February 13 and March 27, 2019. There is one half-day tutorial on April 17, 2019. The CP Course

Although anyone may take the course, only architects and professional engineers may practice as CPs. Intern Architects AIBC and engineers-in-training who meet all course requirements and pass the exams will be able to practice as CPs when they become registered as Architects or professional engineers. The CP Course cost is $4,800 until October 15, 2018, and $5,100 after October 15, 2018. Registration closes December 3, 2018. UPDATES TO ONS I TE SEWERAGE SYSTEMS GUIDEL INES ADDRESS POL ICY DOCUMENT Engineers and Geoscientists BC recently updated its Professional Practice Guidelines - Onsite Sewerage Systems . Published May 24, 2018, Version 1.3 is now available on the association’s website. The guidelines provide guidance on professional practice for Engineering/Geoscience Professionals who are qualified to design or advise on Onsite Sewerage Systems under the Sewerage System Regulation . This version of the guidelines reflects the requirements the content is still relevant and accurate. under the new policy document Sewerage System Regulation: Standard Practice and Health Hazards , published in September 2017 by the Health Protection Branch of the Government of British Columbia Ministry of Health, which provides guidance to professionals on the scope of health hazards to consider before issuing a Letter of Certification.

Other changes include section 8.2.11 (Operation and Maintenance Plan Checklist), and section 8.2.1.1 (Letters of Certification). Professional Practice Guidelines – Onsite Sewerage Systems was initially published in January 2013. The association reviews and updates published guidelines once every five years to ensure
