VANCOUVER AIRPORT FUEL DELIVERY RAM Engineering Ltd. constructed a new fuel receiving, storage, and delivery system for the Vancouver Airport Authority, which features a marine terminal, 6 above-ground fuel storage tanks, and a 14-km underground pipeline to YVR. The pipeline construction included 21 horizontal-directional drills crossing major roadways and the Fraser River. With the alignment crossing environmentally sensitive areas, the primary use of drilling, as opposed to open-cut methods, allowed many areas to remain nearly undisturbed. Completion of the fuel delivery project has secured YVR’s fuel source for the next 50-plus years. The new facility will increase the sustainability and safety of fuel handling at the airport, which currently relies on up to 70 tanker trucks a day – or 2,000 a month – to meet the airport’s peak demand. With over one million person-hours worked, the project was completed without a lost-time incident. Company: RAM Engineering Ltd.
