Innovation Summer 2024

SUNNYBRAE WWTP REPLACEMENT Vancouver-based ECOfluid Systems Inc. was selected to provide a new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for the Sunnybrae Bible Camp. Located on Shuswap Lake near Tappen, BC, the non-profit facility hosts thousands of youths annually, with activities peaking in the summer. The challenge lies in accommodating significant fluctuations in flows and organic loadings that occur from day to day and month to month, typical of a resort-like setting. Additionally, proximity to Shuswap Lake and the camp’s commitment to environmental stewardship necessitates stringent effluent discharge standards. ECOfluid designed and supplied a packaged membrane bioreactor (MBR) WWTP, integrating some existing infrastructure for flow equalization. The new plant can treat flows ranging from 8 to 68 m 3 /day to Class A standards. Automation means only periodic monitoring by a local contract operator is needed. Company: ECOfluid Systems Inc. Participants: ECOfluid Systems Inc.: Brian Chan P.Eng.; Zhidong Li. Franklin Engineering: Jayme Franklin, P.Eng.
