Innovation Summer 2025

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS | 2024-2025

TALL-STACK INCINERATOR INSTALLATION At the project site in Attachie, BC, Questor Technology installed a tall-stack incinerator. A design enhancement was performed to their industry leading (99.99% efficient) incinerators to provide a cost effective solution to sulfur dioxide (SO2) dispersion while lowering emissions. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) combustion produces SO2. Ground level concentrations of SO2 need to be managed below specified thresholds due to adverse safety and environmental impacts. This is accomplished by adding height to the incinerator which increases dispersion. The innovative aspect of the Questor solution was to install the combustion chamber mid-height in the stack and use structural steel below the combustion chamber. The structural steel component below the combustion chamber mitigates the need for refractory and high-temperature materials through the entire stack height. The design also minimizes the use of fuel gas thanks to more consistent pressure through the stack. Company: Questor Technology Inc. Participants: Audrey Mascarenhas, P.Eng.; Tyler Bradbury, P.Eng. This project involves replacing 440 m of boardwalk and bridges along Port Moody’s popular trail, which attracts over 230,000 annual visitors. The trail passes through critical salmon-bearing creeks and wildlife habitats, making it an essential recreational and ecological space. The new SHORELINE TRAIL BOARDWALK REPLACEMENT

design features raised boardwalks to accommodate rising sea levels and enhanced safety with added railings. Innovative, small-diameter helical screw piles minimize environmental disturbance by allowing installation without heavy machinery, preserving sensitive ecosystems. Additionally, the structures are designed to withstand seismic activity, ensuring long-term safety and sustainability. This project demonstrates a commitment to public safety and environmental stewardship while enhancing the community’s connection to nature.
