AVALANCHE HAZARD INDEX ASSESSMENT Alpine Solutions developed an innovative automated methodology for Avalanche Hazard Index (AHI) calculation that provides a comprehensive understanding of avalanche risk by quantifying potential damage and loss resulting from interactions between snow avalanches and vehicles across the entire highway network. The method leverages data from BC’s Digital Road Atlas, traffic volume datasets, digital avalanche path polygons, and a vast repository of avalanche occurrence records. This data-driven approach allowed AHI values to be recalculated on the fly, providing users JOHN HART DAM SEISMIC UPGRADE John Hart Dam, built in 1947 near Campbell River, comprises a concrete dam, intake dam, generating station, and 3 earthfill embankment sections. The dam is classified as an “extreme” consequence dam under CDA. BC Hydro and Klohn Crippen Berger conducted feasibility to implementation design of the seismic upgrade of the dam. As part of the work, the team evaluated the dam’s seismic performance under the Maximum Design Earthquake and developed remedial options. The selected upgrades included
