Six months after the suspension period concludes, Mr. Tran must undergo a practice review conducted by the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Audit and Practice Review Committee. Mr. Tran paid $12,000 toward the legal and investigative costs of Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
to his failure to advise the City of Langford of the limited scope of the remediation work he undertook for Danbrook One. As of September 20, 2024, Mr. Tran’s registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC is suspended for a period of three months. This is the third registrant disciplined by Engineers and Geoscientists BC for their involvement with Danbrook One, the 11-storey concrete building at 2766 Claude Road in Langford, BC, now called RidgeView Place. Brian McClure and Theodore Sorensen had their registration cancelled by Engineers and Geoscientists BC in 2022 as a result of their deficient technical engineering work for the building. Mr. Tran took responsibility for the remediation of the building as the structural engineer of record and provided the associated Letters of Assurance to the City of Langford. Mr. Tran failed to advise the City of Langford that the remediation design for the building was limited to only addressing items identified in a report prepared by a third-party engineering firm that expressly stated it was not a comprehensive review of the building.
