LISTENING TO REGISTRANTS :
Focus group findings help shape engagement strategy
As part of the organization’s strategic imperative to build trusted partnerships, Engineers and Geoscientists BC conducted a series of registrant focus groups this spring to better understand how registrants want to engage with the organization. These sessions were a key component of the organization’s broader engagement efforts and are directly informing the approach that the organization takes to engagement. Facilitated by an independent consultant, the Communication Insights Focus Groups brought together 29 registrants across four virtual sessions. Participants included a diverse mix of engineers and geoscientists, including internationally trained professionals and those newer to the profession. The sessions offered a space for candid, in-depth discussion about how the organization communicates and consults with registrants.
“Focus groups are a great way to go deeper and have real, candid conversations,” said Tara Bushman, Manager, Communications. “They give us valuable qualitative data that helps shape our approach to engagement in a meaningful way.” These insights, along with findings from the 2025 Registrant Insights Survey and the 2024 Annual Conference, were presented to the Board on June 20 as part of a proposed direction for a new registrant engagement strategy. What’s next? The focus group findings are now being integrated with results from the 2025 Registrant Insights Survey – completed by over 4,000 registrants – to finalize the new engagement strategy. This strategy will be presented to the Board in the fall and will guide how, when, and with whom the organization engages moving forward.
