NCG SYSTEMS FOR NINE DRAGONS IN CHINA A.H. Lundberg Systems Ltd. of Vancouver has designed and supplied 7 odour-control systems for 5 Nine Dragons Paper (Holdings) Ltd. pulp mills in China. The systems collect concentrated and diluted non-condensable gases (NCG) generated during the cooking and evaporation processes. The gases are destroyed via incineration in a recovery boiler to meet environmental air emission standards. The secondary incineration system consists of a thermal oxidizer, followed by a waste heat boiler for energy recovery, and a SO2 scrubber. Company: A.H. Lundberg Systems Ltd. MIRROR POND BANK AND DESCHUTES TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS Gracefully winding along the banks of Mirror Pond, the recently completed boardwalk structure now completes a key portion of an extensive public trail that previously detoured its way through downtown Bend, Oregon. Two separated boardwalk structures, totaling 300 m, efficiently support a 3-m wide multi-use pathway that now provides full American with Disabilities Act (ADA) mobility access and connectivity along a previously inaccessible and challenging portion of trail system. The sinuous structural solution is on a heavy timber framed boardwalk, which is supported by pairs of micropiles to provide support over varying ground conditions, including cantilevering over the river’s edge. The design minimizes impacts to adjacent native trees and vegetation. The context-sensitive and environmentally sustainable trail provides improved access to natural features, while enhancing safety and the trail-user’s experience of the natural setting.
